What to bring for a monument walk

A monument walk needs more than a printed route. You will need clear wayfinding, information for each stop, supplies for registration and enough equipment for the reception afterwards. Plan route materials for the full group, plus spares for weather or lost items. The quantities below help you shop for a walk with multiple guides, rest stops and a reception venue without leaving essential supplies until the last day.

Tips

  • Prepare one route map and information leaflet per participant, then add 10% extra for late registrations, damaged copies or visitors who join at the start.
  • Use one name badge and wristband per participant, plus at least 10 spare sets. Keep markers, pens, notepads and clipboards together at the registration point.
  • Bring route arrows, cones and barrier tape for every unclear turn or crossing. Pack waterproof document sleeves for maps and monument information if rain is possible.
  • For a walk lasting several hours, take at least one full bottle of water per person and chill the drinks before departure. Reusable drinking glasses should cover the reception group, with 10% extra.
  • Check power needs before the event: pack extension cords and power strips for the reception equipment, and provide one charged power bank for every guide or supervisor carrying a phone.
