Wedding Breakfast Shopping List
A wedding breakfast needs more than food on a table. You will need enough tableware for each course, separate glasses for water, wine and champagne, and serving pieces that keep the buffet moving. Plan quantities from your final guest count, then add a small buffer for breakages and extra servings. Fresh bread, fruit, vegetables, eggs and chilled breakfast items should be bought or collected close to the event, while menus, name badges, linens and table dΓ©cor can be prepared earlier.

Tips
- Count one breakfast plate, dessert plate, water glass, coffee cup, knife and fork per guest, then add 5β10% extra for breakages, dropped items and late additions.
- Provide one wine glass and one champagne glass per guest if both will be served. Keep at least 10% extra glasses available so the table does not stall when used glasses are being washed.
- Buy or collect fresh bread on the day, or no earlier than the evening before. Keep fruit, vegetables, eggs and other chilled breakfast items refrigerated until preparation starts.
- Allow one serving spoon or utensil for every buffet dish, plus two or three spares. Without them, guests will reuse cutlery between sandwich toppings, fruit, eggs and other dishes.
- Prepare printed menus, name badges, napkins, tablecloths and flower vases before the wedding breakfast day. Pack these separately from food so they are not forgotten during final shopping and setup.
Frequently asked questions
- How many plates and glasses do I need for a wedding breakfast?
- Start with one breakfast plate, dessert plate, water glass, coffee cup, knife and fork per guest. Add 5β10% extra, so a breakfast for 100 guests needs 105β110 of each regularly used item.
- How much extra tableware should I buy for a wedding breakfast?
- A 5β10% buffer is usually enough for breakages, dropped items and unexpected guests. For 80 guests, that means keeping 84β88 plates, cups and commonly used glasses available.
- When should I buy bread and fresh breakfast food?
- Pick up fresh bread on the event day whenever possible, or the evening before at the latest. Wash fruit and vegetables, boil eggs and chill breakfast items during the final preparation period rather than several days early.
- What do people forget for a wedding breakfast buffet?
- Serving utensils, bread baskets, small bowls, pitchers and enough coffee pots are often missed. Count one utensil per buffet dish and keep two or three spares, then check the full tableware set before shopping.
