What to bring for a DJ workshop

A DJ workshop needs more than controllers and laptops. Plan the practical supplies around the number of participants, the session length and whether you are serving coffee, cold drinks or snacks. Glasses, coffee cups, extension cords, spare batteries and USB sticks are easy to overlook and difficult to replace once the workshop has started. Use the equipment list for the technical setup, then buy or collect the consumables and backup items at least one day before the workshop.

Tips

  • Plan 2–3 cold drinks per participant for the first hour, then 1–2 more for each additional hour. Chill them before opening the venue and keep a cooler available during the session.
  • Allow 1 coffee cup and 1 glass per participant, plus at least 10% extra. For 20 participants, that means 22 of each so you are not washing up during the workshop.
  • Keep at least 2 spare batteries for every battery-powered microphone or accessory. Test the microphones before participants arrive and store the replacements at the registration desk.
  • Bring 1 USB stick per participant if attendees will save music or mixes, plus 2 extra sticks for backups. Collect music files in advance so the workshop does not start with avoidable downloads.
  • Count power points before setup and pack enough power strips and extension cords to reach every laptop, controller, mixer and speaker. Label the cables and leave one tested spare cable for the main audio connection.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to bring to a DJ workshop?
Bring the planned DJ equipment, laptops, headphones, USB sticks, audio and power cables, power strips, extension cords and spare batteries. For refreshments, allow 2–3 drinks per person for the first hour, plus coffee cups, glasses and any serving supplies.
How many headphones do I need for a DJ workshop?
Provide 1 working pair of headphones per active learner or per workstation. Add at least 1 spare pair for every 10 participants, so a group of 20 needs 22 pairs if everyone may practise at the same time.
How much coffee and water should I buy for a DJ workshop?
Plan 2 cups of coffee per participant for a half-day workshop and 1 extra cup for every 4 participants. Provide 2–3 cold drinks per person for the first hour, then 1–2 per person for each additional hour.
When should I prepare the DJ workshop supplies?
Buy drinks, coffee supplies and disposable or washable tableware at least 1 day beforehand. Test the DJ equipment, cables, laptops and software during a scheduled equipment check before participants arrive, ideally on the previous day.
