Baking Competition Shopping List
A baking competition needs more than flour and ovens. This shopping list covers the equipment, kitchen tools, tableware and drinks needed to run separate workstations, serve finished bakes and let judges work efficiently. Plan quantities by workstation rather than buying one shared set of tools. Check dietary requirements before shopping, and test ovens, mixers, extension cords and power strips before participants arrive.

Tips
- Count one complete set of mixing bowls, measuring cups, measuring spoons, spatulas and a whisk for every workstation. Sharing small tools creates delays as soon as several teams start mixing.
- Provide at least one kitchen scale per workstation and check its batteries or power supply 1β2 days before the competition. Scales are easy to overlook when the main equipment is already arranged.
- Match baking pans, baking trays and cooling racks to the recipe and team count before shopping. Plan at least one cooling rack per workstation if teams must cool bakes before judging.
- Keep oven mitts at every oven and add a spare pair at the equipment area. Hot trays are handled repeatedly during a competition, so a single shared pair quickly becomes a bottleneck.
- Set aside reusable plates, cups, coffee cups, cutlery and judgeβs spoons before setup. For judging, prepare at least one clean spoon per judge and keep serving platters separate from the teamsβ work surfaces.
Frequently asked questions
- How much equipment does each baking competition team need?
- Give each team or workstation its own mixing bowls, measuring tools, kitchen scale, spatulas, whisk and basic baking pans. For a smooth start, avoid making more than one team share a hand mixer, rolling pin or cooling rack.
- How many ovens do I need for a baking competition?
- Plan oven capacity around the number of teams and the recipeβs baking time, not just the number of participants. If four teams need to bake at the same time, four usable oven spaces prevent a queue; test every oven at least 1 day beforehand.
- What drinks and tableware should I buy for a baking competition?
- Provide reusable cups for cold drinks, coffee cups, reusable plates and cutlery sets for tasting. Chill drinks before opening and keep a separate set of judgeβs spoonsβone per judge plus 2β3 spares.
- When should I buy ingredients and refrigerated products?
- Buy non-perishable ingredients and supplies 3β7 days before the competition, then check the stock against the final shopping list. Purchase refrigerated products close to the event, ideally 1 day beforehand, and keep them chilled until setup.
