What you need for a walk concert
A walk concert needs more than instruments and a route. You will be moving between performance locations, so pack supplies that can be carried, identified quickly and set up without a fixed backstage area. Plan drinks and serving ware for the registered audience, then add signs, batteries, cable protection and weather cover. Check every stop for power before buying equipment that depends on mains electricity.

Tips
- Buy or gather drinks and reusable drinking glasses early enough to chill them before the first performance. As a starting point, allow two to three drinks per person for the first hour, then adjust for the full programme and weather.
- Prepare directional signs and info boards for every route decision, not just the starting point. Bring cable ties and duct tape as well, because signs, banners and loose materials often need a quick fix outdoors.
- Count tables, chairs and beer tables by performance location rather than for the event as a whole. Add party tents where people will wait, register or take a break, since a weather change can make one uncovered information point unusable.
- Pack spare batteries, power banks and LED work lights before loading the audio gear. Outdoor stops may have limited power, and dark paths or late pack-downs are difficult to manage with phone lights alone.
- Separate audio cables, extension cords, power strips and cable trays into labelled boxes for each stop. Include instrument cables, DI boxes and microphone stands in the equipment check so a missing small item does not delay an entire performance.
Frequently asked questions
- How many drinks do I need for a walk concert?
- For the first hour, plan on two to three drinks per person. Add more for a longer programme, warm weather or limited refill points, and include coffee cups if hot drinks are served.
- What serving supplies should I buy for a walk concert?
- For each serving point, count reusable drinking glasses, coffee cups, plates and cutlery sets for the expected audience, then add around 10% spare. Tables and tablecloths should be counted per location, not only for the main start point.
- How many signs are needed for a walk concert route?
- Provide at least one directional sign at every turn, entrance, crossing and performance location. Prepare the final route map and sign positions at least one week before the event so missing signs can still be made or bought.
- What cables and power supplies do I need for a walk concert?
- Prepare extension cords, power strips, instrument cables, DI boxes, cable trays and cable ties for each location that uses powered audio. Bring power banks, spare batteries and LED work lights as backup, and test the complete setup at least one day beforehand.
