What to buy for a Senior Bike Tour
A Senior Bike Tour needs more than bikes and refreshments. You will need drinks and simple food for the break and dinner, plus repair tools, spare inner tubes and first aid supplies for the route. Pack registration materials, route maps and name stickers where they can be reached quickly at the start. Check quantities against the number of riders, chaperones and helpers, and prepare everything at least one day before departure.

Tips
- Plan at least 750 ml of water per rider for the ride, plus extra drinks for the break. Chill what can be chilled the night before and use water jugs or thermos flasks for the rest.
- Take one reflective vest for every route leader or chaperone, and bring route signs, traffic cones and waterproof document sleeves so instructions remain visible in changing weather.
- Pack at least one bike pump, two multitools, tire levers, cable ties and spare inner tubes in the support vehicle or with the lead group. Check that the tubes match the bikes being used.
- Prepare one first aid kit for the start area and one mobile kit for the route. Charge every mobile phone and power bank before leaving, and bring the correct chargers.
- Bring one name sticker, route map and registration sheet for each participant, plus at least 10% extra pens and stickers. Set aside reusable cups, plates and cutlery before the dinner setup begins.
Frequently asked questions
- How much water do I need for a Senior Bike Tour?
- Allow about 750 ml per rider for the cycling section and add extra for the break and warm weather. For 20 riders, that is at least 15 litres before adding reserve drinks.
- What bike repair equipment should I bring?
- Bring at least one pump, two multitools, tire levers, cable ties and several spare inner tubes. Check the wheel sizes in advance so the tubes fit the participating bikes.
- How many route maps and name stickers should I print?
- Prepare one route map and one name sticker per participant, leader and chaperone. Add 10% extra copies and stickers, so a group of 30 people needs at least 33 of each.
- When should I prepare the Senior Bike Tour supplies?
- Buy and check the non-perishable supplies at least 3 to 5 days before the tour. Chill drinks, charge power banks and pack the route materials the evening before.
