What to Bring for a Running Training Session

A running training session needs more than shoes and a route. Plan supplies for registration, group control, route marking, hydration, safety and the finish area. For a small session, reusable cups, water jugs, bib numbers and a first aid kit cover the essentials; larger groups also need extra clipboards, pens, cones and route arrows. Check lighting and power before the day, especially if runners start or finish in low light.

Tips

  • Prepare one bib number, one cup and one clear registration record for every participant, plus at least 10% extra numbers and cups for late additions or replacements.
  • Bring roughly 500–750 ml of water per runner for a one-hour session, and use coolers or water jugs so drinks stay accessible before and after the run.
  • Mark turns and the start area with cones and route arrows. Put a spare set in the organizer’s bag because signs can be moved, missed or blown over.
  • Take one clipboard and two pens for each registration point, then pack a power bank for every timing device or phone that must last through the session.
  • If any part takes place in darkness, bring one headlamp for each route checker and enough battery lights to show the reception and finish area; test them at least 24 hours beforehand.
