Pizza Contest Shopping List
A pizza contest needs more than dough, sauce and cheese. You will need enough ingredients for every team, safe oven equipment, preparation tools, judging supplies and a way to keep drinks cold. Plan portions before you shop: allow at least one small pizza per participant, plus extra dough and toppings for mistakes. Buy chilled ingredients no earlier than one day ahead, and check gas, power and refrigeration before the event rather than on the morning itself.

Tips
- Allow one 250–300 g dough ball per contestant or team round, plus 10% extra for torn or overworked dough. Keep the dough in dough crates or covered bowls so it does not dry out.
- For toppings, plan roughly 100–125 g of cheese and 150–200 g of combined vegetables, meat or other toppings per pizza. Separate ingredients into team portions before the contest starts.
- Count one pizza peel, cutting board and pizza cutter per workstation where possible. If equipment is shared, add at least 10 minutes per round for cleaning and transferring tools.
- Buy or confirm enough fuel and power equipment for the ovens, including gas cylinders, extension cords and power strips. Test every oven and cable at least 24 hours before the contest.
- Plan serving supplies separately from cooking supplies: provide one plate, one cutlery set and one glass per guest, then add 10% extra. Chill drinks several hours ahead and keep a separate cooler for judges if needed.
Frequently asked questions
- How much dough do I need for a pizza contest?
- Plan one 250–300 g dough ball per pizza, with at least 10% extra. For 10 pizzas, prepare 11 dough balls, or about 2.75–3.3 kg of dough in total.
- How much cheese and pizza topping should I buy per person?
- For each pizza, buy about 100–125 g of cheese and 150–200 g of combined toppings. For 12 pizzas, that means roughly 1.2–1.5 kg of cheese and 1.8–2.4 kg of toppings.
- What equipment does each pizza contest workstation need?
- Each workstation should have a mixing bowl, measuring cups, a kitchen scale, cutting board, chef’s knife, rolling pin, pizza peel and oven mitts. Add one kitchen timer per oven and allow at least one spare of each small tool.
- When should I buy ingredients for a pizza contest?
- Buy fresh vegetables, cheese and other chilled toppings 1 day before the event. Prepare dough according to its required proving time, and check ovens, gas cylinders, refrigeration and electrical equipment at least 24 hours in advance.
