What you need for a music quiz

A music quiz needs more than questions and a playlist. Plan the drinks, snacks, tableware and team materials before shopping, then check the audio and presentation equipment early enough to replace missing cables or adapters. Give each team its own answer forms, pens, scorecard and name sign. The quantities below are starting points: adjust drinks and food to your guest count, quiz length and whether the venue already provides furniture or equipment.

Tips

  • For drinks, allow 2–3 drinks per person during the first hour, then about 1–2 per person for each additional hour. Chill bottled drinks at least 4 hours ahead, and prepare ice before guests arrive.
  • Plan one answer form, one scorecard, one team name sign and at least two pens per team. Print 10–15% extra forms and keep spare pens at the reception desk.
  • Count tableware against your guest list before shopping: one plate, water glass, beer glass and cutlery set per person, plus 10% spare. Prepare serving bowls and serving spoons for each snack or appetizer.
  • Test the laptop, projector, screen and speakers together at least 24 hours before the quiz. Keep the HDMI cable, audio connection cable, power strips and extension cords with the equipment instead of assuming the venue has compatible ones.
  • Prepare coffee and hot water for the final guest count: allow one coffee cup per person, one thermos flask for roughly 8–10 cups, and enough kettles or a coffee maker to avoid a long queue during the break.
