Mini Golf Tournament Checklist

A mini golf tournament needs more than a booked course and a list of players. Set the format early, close registration in time to build teams, and prepare rules and scorecards before guests arrive. On the day, allow time for the registration desk, start groups, food, drinks and prize table—not just the rounds themselves. This checklist covers the planning sequence, equipment and details that are easy to leave until the last minute.

Tips

  • Book the course before sending invitations, then set a firm registration closing date. You need the final participant count before assigning teams and putting together start groups.
  • Write the competition format and lane rules in advance. Decide how ties, difficult lanes and incomplete scorecards are handled so players do not have to improvise during the tournament.
  • Print scorecards and prepare spare mini golf clubs, balls and other course materials before event day. A small equipment check prevents one missing club or damaged scorecard from delaying every group.
  • Set up registration and competition tables before participants arrive, with scoreboards, pens, rules and the prize table sign ready. Keep tables, chairs and waste bins positioned so they do not obstruct play.
  • Chill drinks and prepare snacks before the first group starts. For food service, set out reusable cups, plates, cutlery, serving platters and small bowls, and keep coffee equipment separate from the registration queue.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I book a mini golf tournament?
Book the mini golf course as soon as you have a likely date and expected group size, preferably at least 4–6 weeks ahead. This gives you time to send invitations, process registrations and order prizes.
When should mini golf tournament registration close?
Close registration about 7 days before the tournament. Use the final list to assign teams, create start groups, check dietary requirements and print the right number of scorecards.
How many players should be in a mini golf start group?
Use groups of 3–4 players where the course allows it. Smaller groups keep play moving and make scorekeeping easier; publish the starting order before the event so people know where to go.
What should I prepare on the day of a mini golf tournament?
Finish the registration desk, competition table, seating, drinks, snacks and prize display before the first start group arrives. Allow at least 60 minutes for setup, plus extra time if tables, chairs, decorations or power connections still need to be arranged.
