What You Need for an International Market

An international market needs more than food and decorations. You will need stalls, tables, signs, serving equipment, power supplies and a reliable way to take payments. Plan quantities around the number of stallholders, visitors and food vendors rather than buying one set for the whole event. Check every electrical item against the venue’s available power points, and arrange equipment that vendors cannot reasonably bring themselves.

Tips

  • Allow one market stall or clearly marked trading space per stallholder, then keep at least one spare table available for shared supplies, registration or last-minute changes.
  • For food service, match plates, bowls, reusable glasses, coffee cups and cutlery to your busiest hour rather than the total guest count. Add at least 10% extra if washing facilities are limited.
  • Count extension cords and power strips only after mapping the venue’s power points. Keep coffee machines, kettles, card machines and charging stations on separate, clearly labelled circuits where possible.
  • Prepare one visible country sign for each section or stall, plus route signs at entrances and junctions. Pack spare card, tape and fixings because signs are often moved during setup.
  • Bring enough coolers and cooling packs for chilled goods, and freeze the packs at least 24 hours before the market. Keep cash registers and card machines together with charging cables and a secure float area.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to buy for an international market?
Start with one stall or trading space per vendor, tables, tablecloths, country signs, serving items, cooling equipment and payment equipment. Add power supplies, seating and route signs based on the venue layout and expected attendance.
How many plates and cups do I need for an international market?
Use the busiest serving hour as your calculation point and provide at least one plate, bowl or glass per expected serving in that hour. Add 10% extra, especially when there is no quick washing option.
How many tables are needed for an international market?
Plan at least one main table per stallholder, then add tables for registration, shared service areas and payments. Confirm the final number after the booth layout is drawn, because aisles and access routes reduce usable space.
When should I prepare equipment for an international market?
Confirm suppliers and electrical requirements at least 1–2 weeks before the event. Freeze cooling packs 24 hours beforehand, check card machines and charging stations the day before, and inspect all delivered equipment during setup.
