Horse market shopping list

A horse market needs more than tables and drinks. You also need practical equipment for exhibitors, horse welfare, visitor flow, payments and changing weather. This shopping list covers the main furniture, serving items and equipment to arrange before market day. Check quantities against the number of exhibitors, horses and expected visitors, then buy or borrow items earlyβ€”especially horse stalls, water tubs, barriers and cooling equipment.

Tips

  • Plan at least one water tub and one hay rack for each horse stall, then keep a few spare tubs available in case of damage or heavy use. Arrange hay separately if it is not supplied by exhibitors.
  • Match tables and chairs to the number of exhibitors and visitors rather than guessing. Keep a separate cash desk table and information desk so payments and questions do not block the market stalls.
  • Prepare cups, plates and cutlery for the busiest serving period, not just the average crowd. Reusable cups, coffee cups, tea glasses and small bowls are easy to run short of when several people serve themselves at once.
  • Bring enough cones and crowd barriers to separate parking, pedestrian routes and horse areas. Put signs and barriers in place before exhibitors arrive, so horse traffic does not mix with visitor queues.
  • Check cooling capacity at least one day before the market. Chill drinks in coolers or refrigerators in batches, and make sure coffee machines and kettles can be used safely at the chosen power points.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need for a horse market?
Plan furniture for exhibitors and visitors, horse stalls with saddle racks, hay racks and water tubs, plus barriers, cones, signs, payment equipment and serving supplies. Check the list at least 7 days before the market so missing rentals can still be arranged.
How many water tubs do I need for a horse market?
Allow at least 1 water tub per horse stall and keep 1 or 2 spare tubs for busy markets or replacements. Check the number of registered horses before buying or collecting them.
How many tables and chairs do I need for a horse market?
Start with 1 market table per exhibitor space and add separate tables for the cash desk and information desk. Provide seating based on your visitor estimate, checking the final exhibitor and registration numbers 3 to 5 days beforehand.
When should I prepare the horse market shopping list?
Make the first list at least 2 weeks before the event, after the number of stalls and horses is becoming clear. Do the final quantity check 2 to 3 days before the market, then chill drinks and collect materials on the day before.
