What to Bring to Handball Training

Use this shopping list to prepare a complete handball training session without last-minute trips to the store. For 12 players, plan on 6 to 8 handballs, one bib per player plus 2 spares, and enough cones and marker discs to set up several drills. Check the goals, nets, pump and ball valves before leaving. Drinks, first aid supplies, spare shirts and tableware are easy to overlook when the focus is on training equipment.

Tips

  • Bring 6 to 8 handballs for a 12-player session so passing and shooting drills keep moving. Pack a ball net and check every ball with the pump and ball valves before training starts.
  • Prepare 14 training bibs for 12 players: one for each participant plus 2 spares. Wash them before the session and pack spare shirts in case players get wet or muddy.
  • Pack at least 20 cones and 12 marker discs for team zones, shooting lines and defensive drills. Add 2 coordination ladders, 6 skipping ropes and 6 resistance bands if these exercises are part of the programme.
  • Take a first aid kit with several ice packs and athletic tape, not just plasters. Check it on the day before opening the sports hall, because missing tape or empty cold packs are difficult to replace during training.
  • For a session lasting up to 2 hours, provide 2 to 3 drinks per player and bring extra disposable cups. Chill the drinks in coolers and use thermos flasks if you are serving a hot meal or soup afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

How many handballs do I need for handball training?
For 12 players, bring 6 to 8 handballs. Six is workable for passing drills; eight reduces waiting time during shooting and small-sided exercises.
How many training bibs are needed for a handball session?
Plan one bib per player, plus 2 spare bibs. For 12 participants, pack 14 bibs and wash them before training if they were used previously.
What drinks should I buy for handball training?
Allow 2 to 3 drinks per player for a session of up to 2 hours, with a few extra servings for staff. Chill them before players arrive and pack enough cups for everyone.
What should I pack for handball training injuries?
Bring a first aid kit, several ice packs and athletic tape. Check these supplies at least 24 hours beforehand so you can replace anything missing before the sports hall opens.
