Food quiz shopping list
A food quiz needs more than questions and snacks. Plan what teams will write with, how scores will be recorded, and how food and drinks will be served without interrupting the rounds. This list covers the practical supplies for the quiz table, buffet and bar, including answer forms, pens, serving equipment, coffee supplies and presentation equipment. Check dietary requirements before shopping, then chill drinks and prepare the serving area before guests arrive.

Tips
- Buy or prepare one answer form and one pen per team for each quiz round, plus at least 10% extra pens and forms for mistakes or late additions.
- For the buffet, count one plate, glass, fork, knife and spoon per guest, then add 10% spare tableware. Bring serving spoons, platters and trays so guests do not use their own cutlery.
- Plan coffee and tea separately from cold drinks: provide one coffee cup and spoon per guest, and check that the coffee maker and kettles can handle the group without a long queue.
- Test the laptop, projector, screen, speakers and microphone before guests arrive. Pack extension cords, power strips and a power bank; missing cables are harder to replace once the quiz has started.
- Prepare team badges, score sheets and answer paddles before registration. Keep the quiz table supplied with spare pens and forms so the host does not need to leave the room during a round.
Frequently asked questions
- How many pens do I need for a food quiz?
- Plan one working pen per team for every round, with at least 10% extra. For 12 teams, bring 14 to 16 pens and test them before the first question.
- How much tableware should I buy for a food quiz?
- Count one plate, glass, fork, knife and spoon per guest, then add 10% spare. For 30 guests, prepare at least 33 of each item where practical.
- What equipment do I need for a food quiz presentation?
- You need a laptop, projector, projection screen, speakers and microphone if questions or music are presented aloud. Test the full setup at least 60 minutes before registration and pack extension cords and power strips.
- When should I chill drinks for a food quiz?
- Put drinks in the refrigerator or on ice at least 4 hours before guests arrive. If the drinks are not cold yet, use ice in serving trays or buckets and keep a second supply ready.
