What to Buy for a Fitness Challenge
A fitness challenge needs more than weights and workout stations. You also need clear scoring supplies, participant materials, drinks, serving items and enough equipment for people to move between stations without waiting. Use the plan below to check what must be bought, borrowed or packed before the venue opens. Sort everything by registration, scoring, hydration and activity stations so setup stays quick and missing items are easy to spot.

Tips
- Plan equipment by station, not just by activity. Have one yoga mat, kettlebell, dumbbell, skipping rope or resistance band available for each participant who may use that station at the same time, plus a small spare set.
- Bring at least one stopwatch per timed station and keep two extra timing options available, such as a phone stopwatch. Pack measuring tapes, cones and marker discs before leaving for the venue; these are easy to overlook when loading larger equipment.
- Prepare one scorecard and bib number for every registered participant, then pack at least 10% extra. Keep scissors, pens and the scoring materials together at the information or registration desk.
- For hydration, allow two to three drinks per participant during the first hour, with extra water for warm weather. Chill drinks before opening and use coolers so supplies remain accessible without blocking the activity area.
- Set aside a dedicated power kit for the portable speaker and microphone: extension cords, power strips and phone chargers. Test the setup at least 60 minutes before the first participant arrives, and keep cables away from walking lanes.
Frequently asked questions
- What equipment do I need for a fitness challenge?
- The core kit can include yoga mats, kettlebells, dumbbells, skipping ropes, resistance bands, hoops, medicine balls, Pilates balls and step benches. Add cones or marker discs, relay batons, stopwatches and measuring tapes according to the challenge stations.
- How many drinks should I buy for a fitness challenge?
- Plan on two to three drinks per participant for the first hour, then add more for longer events or warm conditions. Buy extra water for volunteers and keep everything chilled in coolers before the start.
- How many scorecards and bib numbers do I need?
- Prepare one scorecard and one bib number for every registered participant, plus at least 10% extra. For 40 participants, pack 44 of each so late changes or damaged copies do not disrupt registration.
- When should I set up the fitness challenge equipment?
- Start physical setup at least 60 minutes before participants arrive. Check the floor and available space first, then place stations, scoring boards, registration materials and power equipment before opening the venue.
