Festival trip shopping list

A festival trip needs more than tickets and a change of clothes. This shopping list covers the shared gear that is easy to forget: coolers, ice packs, reusable tableware, food containers, lighting and power banks. Buy and portion food before departure, then load the coolers last so drinks stay cold. Check the festival rules and admission requirements before buying anything that may not be allowed on site.

Tips

  • Plan drinks by time, not just by headcount: allow two to three drinks per person for the first hour, then adjust for the rest of the day and the weather.
  • Coolers work best when packed the night before with frozen ice packs. Keep one cooler for drinks and another for food so the food cooler is not opened every few minutes.
  • Pack at least one reusable cup, plate, bowl and set of cutlery per person, plus a few extras for losses or late additions to the group.
  • Charge every power bank and test the charging cables before leaving. One power bank per two people is a practical minimum for a full festival day.
  • Label bags, food containers and group equipment with waterproof markers. Add group flags or battery lights so people can find the meeting point after dark.

Frequently asked questions

What should I buy for a festival trip?
Plan for food, drinks, coolers, ice packs, reusable tableware, food containers, power banks, charging cables and lighting. Add seating, a picnic blanket or a pop-up shelter only if the festival rules and transport arrangements allow them.
How many drinks should I bring per person for a festival?
For the first hour, allow two to three drinks per person, then calculate the remaining amount based on the trip length, weather and whether drinks are available at the festival. Bring water separately and check the venue’s rules on outside drinks.
When should I pack the coolers for a festival trip?
Chill drinks and food the day before, freeze the ice packs overnight and fill the coolers just before departure. Keep the coolers closed during transport and place food in sealed containers to prevent leaks.
How many power banks do I need for a festival group?
Plan on one fully charged power bank for every two people for a full day, with a compatible charging cable for each phone type. Charge them the night before and keep them in an easy-to-reach bag.
