Children’s Quiz Checklist

A children’s quiz needs more preparation than a list of questions. You need a clear theme, age-appropriate rounds, checked answers, team arrangements and a simple scoring system. Registration details also affect seating, dietary requirements, food quantities and certificates. On the day, allow time to test the laptop, projector, screen, microphone and speakers before children arrive. This checklist covers the planning, shopping, printing, room setup and presentation details that are easy to leave until the last minute.

Tips

  • Set the quiz structure before writing every question: decide the theme, age range, number of rounds and rules first, then check every answer and scoring method.
  • Close registrations early enough to create teams and table seating. Use the final attendee list to confirm dietary requirements and prepare the registration desk.
  • Print answer forms, scorecards, answer cards and quiz booklets before the event, and pack pens, pencils, clipboards and a score counter together so materials are not scattered.
  • Test the laptop, projector, screen, microphone and speakers at the venue before guests arrive. Check extension cords and power strips as part of the test, not during registration.
  • Prepare prizes and certificates before setup, and chill drinks and prepare snacks and sandwiches with enough time to arrange them on platters, bowls and serving jugs.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I plan a children’s quiz?
Start at least 3 to 4 weeks before the quiz. Use the first week for the theme, audience and rounds, the second for questions and invitations, and the final week for registrations, printing and shopping.
How many questions should a children’s quiz have?
Plan around 30 to 40 questions for a 60- to 90-minute quiz, divided into several short rounds. Keep one or two spare questions available in case a round runs faster than expected.
When should I send invitations for a children’s quiz?
Send invitations 3 to 4 weeks before the event and set the registration deadline about 7 days before it. That leaves time to process registrations, collect dietary requirements and create team and seating plans.
How early should I arrive to set up a children’s quiz?
Allow at least 90 minutes before the start time. Set up tables and chairs first, then the quiz and presentation tables, registration desk, decorations and technical equipment, leaving time for a full sound and projection test.
