Tips

Plan one checkers board, one set of pieces, one chess clock and one competition form for every game running at the same time. Add at least one spare board and spare set of pieces for faults or missing components.
Buy or print enough competition forms for every scheduled match, plus around 10 extra. Put pens at the registration desk and playing tables; five to ten spare pens prevent delays when one runs out.
Prepare the registration desk separately from the playing area. Have name badges, the participant list, a laptop and printer ready at least 30 minutes before registration opens.
For a four-hour tournament, allow roughly two drinks per person during the first two hours and one more per person for each additional two hours. Chill drinks in advance and keep coffee, tea and water available throughout the breaks.
