What to Bring for Basketball Training

This basketball training shopping list covers the equipment and supplies needed for drills, registration, breaks and setup. Plan the number of basketballs and training bibs around your largest group, then check that every ball is inflated before participants arrive. Drinks, reusable cups and a simple serving setup are easy to overlook, especially when the session runs longer than an hour. Pack a pump, spare valves and transport bags so small equipment problems do not stop the training.

Tips

  • Bring at least one basketball for every two participants during passing and dribbling drills, plus two spare balls. Check and inflate them before leaving for the court.
  • Allow one training bib per participant when you need to split the group into teams. Pack the bibs in a separate bag so they can be handed out quickly.
  • For a structured warm-up and circuit, count on roughly 4–6 cones or marker discs per station, with one skipping rope, resistance band or low hurdle for each active station.
  • Pack one reusable cup per participant, plus at least 20% extra, and prepare enough chilled water for the full session. Water coolers or drink pitchers make breaks faster when the group is large.
  • Do not leave the pump, spare valves, whistle and stopwatch behind: check them the evening before. If the speaker needs mains power, add the extension cord to the equipment bag before loading the car.

Frequently asked questions

How many basketballs do I need for basketball training?
Plan one basketball for every two participants for passing and dribbling work, with two additional balls as spares. For a group of 20, bring at least 12 basketballs.
How many training bibs are needed for a basketball session?
Bring one bib per participant if everyone may be assigned to a team, and pack two or three extras for late registrations or damaged bibs. For 20 participants, prepare 22 or 23 bibs.
How much water should I bring to basketball training?
Allow about 750 ml to 1 litre of water per participant for a standard training session, depending on the temperature and session length. Add at least 20% extra and chill it before the group arrives.
What should I check the day before basketball training?
Check the court, weather forecast and sports equipment the evening before, including ball pressure, bibs, cones and the ball pump. Chill drinks and pack the equipment at least 2 hours before departure.
