Baking Competition Shopping List
A baking competition needs more than flour, sugar and a working oven. Each participant needs a complete workstation, reliable measuring tools and enough space to mix, shape and bake without sharing equipment at the wrong moment. The judges also need scorecards, serving plates and a clear tasting setup. Use this shopping list alongside your plan, then check quantities against the number of participants, groups and judges before you buy or collect anything.

Tips
- Count workstations before shopping: each participant or group needs access to mixing bowls, measuring tools, a whisk, spatulas, a dough scraper and a baking tray. Add at least one spare set if the schedule has no time for washing up.
- Test every oven, hand mixer, kitchen scale and timer at least 24 hours before the competition. Check that extension cords and power strips can handle the equipment without creating loose cables across walkways.
- Buy or collect servingware for two separate uses: pastry plates and forks for judging, plus dinner plates, coffee cups and glasses for the buffet and drinks station. Count one set per expected guest, then add 10 percent.
- Prepare participant packs before setup day and label ingredients, tools and race numbers by group. This prevents teams from taking shared equipment and leaves time to replace missing items before registration starts.
- Keep coolers available for ingredients or finished bakes that must stay chilled. Plan the buffet separately from the workstations so guests can serve themselves without blocking ovens, tables or the registration desk.
Frequently asked questions
- What equipment does each baking competition workstation need?
- Plan one set of mixing bowls, a whisk, dough scraper, spatulas, measuring cups, measuring spoons, a rolling pin, kitchen scales, a timer and a baking tray for each participant or group. Add one spare set for every 6 to 8 workstations.
- How many plates and forks do I need for a baking competition?
- Provide one pastry plate and one pastry fork per judge for each tasting round, plus at least one extra set per judge. For guests, count one dinner plate and one fork per person and add 10 percent for replacements and second servings.
- How early should I buy supplies for a baking competition?
- Buy shelf-stable ingredients, disposable servingware and decorations 3 to 7 days ahead. Collect ovens, mixers, tables and power equipment at least 24 hours before the event so you can test and replace anything that fails.
- How many ovens and mixers are needed for a baking competition?
- Match the number of ovens and hand mixers to the number of simultaneous workstations, unless the rules use timed rotation. For a rotation, allow one tested oven and mixer for every 2 to 3 groups and add one spare mixer if possible.
