What you need for an art market

Use this shopping list to prepare an art market with multiple stalls, artwork displays and visitor facilities. Plan supplies for the stallholders first: tables, panels, clothing racks, signs and transport equipment. Then cover payments, power, lighting and refreshments so setup does not depend on last-minute shopping. Check quantities against your confirmed participant list, stall layout and venue before buying or collecting anything.

Tips

  • Allow one market stall or display area per confirmed participant, then add one spare table for registration, information or overflow items. Match tablecloths, stall numbers and price labels to the final stall plan.
  • Prepare one clear stall number and one price-label set for every participant at least one day before the market. Keep spare labels, cable ties and adhesive putty together in a small setup box.
  • Count payment equipment before the event: provide a card machine for each sales point you expect to run at the same time, plus charging stations and extension cords where outlets are limited.
  • For a four-hour market, plan roughly two drinks per visitor in the first hour and one per visitor for each additional hour. Bring reusable cups, coffee cups and plates according to expected attendance, not just the number of stallholders.
  • Pack lighting and power separately from decorations. Test string lights, LED work lights, batteries, power strips and extension cords at least 24 hours before setup, and label every cable for its location.

Frequently asked questions

How many tables do I need for an art market?
Start with one table or display surface per confirmed stallholder, based on the agreed stall format. Add at least one extra table for check-in, information or spare stock, then confirm the count against the final layout.
What should I buy for art market stall displays?
For each stall, check whether you need a market stall, foldable table, tablecloth, art panels, clothing rack or high table. Add stall numbers, price labels, signage materials and cable ties before the final setup day.
How much lighting is needed for an art market?
Plan one usable light source for every dark or poorly lit display area, with extra LED work lights for setup. Test all lights and batteries at least 24 hours beforehand and bring extension cords and power strips for outlets that are not close to the stalls.
When should I prepare the art market shopping list?
Make the first list as soon as registrations close, then revise it after stall formats and the participant list are confirmed. Finish buying, borrowing or collecting supplies at least one day before the market so missing equipment can still be replaced.
