What to buy for an anniversary walk
An anniversary walk needs more than a route and a few snacks. Youβll need water for the walking group, clear route markers, bib numbers, safety vests and practical supplies for the start and finish. Plan separately for the route and the final venue: tables, seating, serving equipment, waste bins and power supplies are easy to overlook. This shopping list helps you check what must be bought, collected or brought along before participants arrive.

Tips
- Plan at least one drinking-water supply for every planned rest stop, plus extra bottles or crates at the finish. Water is often ordered too late because catering quantities are confirmed first.
- Buy route arrows and signs in sufficient quantities for every turn, checkpoint and entrance. Pack spare markers as well as tape or another way to secure them outdoors.
- Count reusable cups, plates, cutlery and coffee cups against the registered participants, then add a practical reserve rather than relying on one item per person.
- Check the power plan before collecting coffee machines, kettles, a sound system or LED lighting. Extension cords, power strips and power banks should be packed at the same time, not on the event morning.
- Prepare a separate weather and safety kit: party tents, coolers, safety vests and lighting may be needed at different points along the route. Keep bib numbers and printed route maps dry in a labelled container.
Frequently asked questions
- How much drinking water do I need for an anniversary walk?
- Plan at least 0.5 litres per participant for a short walk, with additional water at rest stops and the finish. Add extra supplies for warm weather or a route lasting more than two hours.
- How many route signs should I buy for an anniversary walk?
- Count every turn, checkpoint, entrance and confusing junction on the route, then buy at least 10% extra signs or arrows. A route with 20 marking points therefore needs about 22 markers.
- When should I order catering and event supplies?
- Order catering and any personalised prizes or bib numbers at least 2 to 3 weeks before the walk. Check reusable equipment, tents, tables and power supplies again 3 to 5 days before the event.
- What should I bring for the start and finish of the walk?
- Bring tables, chairs, waste bins, route maps, bib numbers, drinking water and safety vests, plus serving and coffee equipment if food is served. Pack lighting, power cables and a microphone separately so they are not left behind with the catering.
