Worm Bin Workshop Checklist

Use this checklist to organize a worm bin workshop from the first booking to the final cleanup. It covers participant registrations, dietary requirements, compost and worms, workstations, drilling equipment, handouts, refreshments, and safety checks. Order live worms and compost early, then confirm that every workstation has the right materials before participants arrive. The day runs more smoothly when bins, lids, drip trays, labels, bedding, and tools are already distributed and ready to use.

Tips

  • Order compost and live compost worms early enough to allow for delivery problems; confirm the quantity against the final participant list before the workshop.
  • Set up one complete workstation before the others, including a worm bin, lid, drip tray, gloves, measuring tape, funnel, compost, bedding, labels, and markers. Use it as a reference for the remaining stations.
  • Mark every drilling point before participants arrive and test the rotary hammers, hand drills, extension cords, and power strips. Keep cords out of walking routes and place floor mats where needed.
  • Prepare participant folders and worksheets in advance, then place the instructions at each workstation. This avoids stopping the demonstration to explain steps that participants could read themselves.
  • Plan refreshments around the schedule: have coffee and tea ready at reception, and serve the break drinks only after the drilling work is supervised and tools can be set aside safely.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I order worms for a worm bin workshop?
Order compost worms and compost at least 7 to 14 days before the workshop. Confirm the delivery date and keep a small buffer before the event so you can resolve shortages or delays.
How many worm bins do I need for a workshop?
Plan one worm bin or tray setup per workstation, based on the final participant list. A practical group size is usually 2 to 4 people per station, so 20 participants would need about 5 to 10 workstations.
When should I set up the worm bin workshop room?
Set out tables, chairs, work stools, bins, lids, drip trays, and workstation materials at least 60 to 90 minutes before participants arrive. Complete the safety and walking-route check after all tools and extension cords are in place.
What should participants receive at a worm bin workshop?
Give each participant or workstation clear instructions, worksheets, gloves, and access to the bin materials, bedding, compost, and worms. Prepare folders before the workshop and divide the worms among the trays only after the demonstration.
