What to bring for volleyball practice
This volleyball practice shopping list covers the equipment, refreshments and setup supplies needed for a smooth training session. Plan for enough balls for drills, plus a properly fitted net, poles and antennas before participants arrive. Drinks, cups and snacks need their own quantities, especially when the session runs longer than an hour. The list also includes practical items people often forget, such as spare valves, a pump, athletic tape and attendance materials.

Tips
- Plan one training volleyball for every 3β4 players during drills, plus 2 competition volleyballs for serving, demonstrations or match play. Bring a ball bag so equipment does not get left around the hall.
- Check the net system at least 24 hours before practice: you need the net, two poles and two antennas, and the pump and spare valves should be packed with the balls rather than stored separately.
- For drinks, allow 500β750 ml per participant for a standard practice and chill them at least 2 hours beforehand. Pack reusable cups and bring coolers if the sports hall has no reliable refrigerator.
- Pack one training bib per player who may need to be split into groups, and bring enough cones, hats and resistance bands for each exercise station. A stopwatch and whistle should be in the coachβs bag before leaving.
- Keep athletic tape and the plaster kit at the registration desk, not in the equipment bag. Put the participant list, competition form and highlighter there as well so attendance and notes can be handled immediately.
Frequently asked questions
- How many volleyballs do I need for volleyball practice?
- Plan on 1 training volleyball for every 3β4 players, with at least 2 extra balls available for demonstrations or match play. For a group of 12, that means 3β4 training balls plus 2 competition volleyballs.
- How much water should I bring to volleyball practice?
- Allow 500β750 ml of drinks per participant for a typical practice, and more in hot conditions. Chill the drinks at least 2 hours before the session and bring reusable cups for shared refreshments.
- What volleyball net equipment is needed for practice?
- Bring 1 volleyball net, 2 net poles and 2 volleyball antennas. Check that the poles fit the hallβs sockets at least 24 hours beforehand so a missing or incompatible part can be replaced in time.
- What should I pack for volleyball registration and minor injuries?
- Pack 1 printed participant list, 1 highlighter and the competition form at the registration desk. Keep 1 plaster kit and several rolls of athletic tape there too, ready before participants arrive.
