What to Buy for a Tennis Training Session
Use this shopping list to prepare a tennis training session without last-minute trips to the store. You will need enough rackets and balls for the training groups, plus cones, agility equipment and ball baskets for drills. Plan drinks, sandwiches and fruit around the session length, and bring cups, plates and serving tools for the reception area. Also check practical items such as coolers, access equipment, extension cords, lighting and cleaning supplies before the training day.

Tips
- Plan at least one tennis ball per participant, plus an extra 10β15% for balls that roll away or need replacing during drills. Store them in ball baskets so the trainer can reach them quickly.
- Count rackets by training group rather than by total attendance. For a group of 8, prepare 8 usable rackets where possible, and check grips, strings and racket bags at least one day before training.
- For a two-hour session, allow about 0.75β1 litre of water per participant. Chill drinks in coolers several hours beforehand and set out reusable drinking cups near the courts.
- Buy sandwiches and fruit according to the registration list, including dietary requirements. Prepare serving platters, cutting boards, bread knives and serving tongs before participants arrive so food service does not interrupt registration.
- Test the portable speaker, microphone, outdoor lights and extension cords before the first group starts. Pack the broom, dustpan, mop set and waste bins as well; these are often forgotten when the focus is on sports equipment.
Frequently asked questions
- How many tennis balls do I need for tennis training?
- Plan at least one ball per participant, with 10β15% extra for drills and lost or damaged balls. For 20 participants, that means roughly 22β23 usable balls.
- How much water should I buy for a tennis training session?
- For a two-hour outdoor session, allow 0.75β1 litre per participant, and more in warm weather. Buy or prepare the drinks at least 3β4 hours before training so they can be chilled.
- What food should I bring for tennis training?
- Provide one sandwich portion and one piece of fruit per participant, adjusted for dietary requirements collected during registration. Prepare and pack the food on the day of training, preferably no more than 2β4 hours before serving.
- When should I check the tennis equipment?
- Check rackets, balls, cones, agility ladders, skipping ropes and bibs at least one day before the session. Test the speaker, microphone, lighting and extension cords on site before participants arrive.
