Tennis Tournament Shopping List

A tennis tournament needs more than rackets and tennis balls. Plan equipment for every court, plus a reserve supply, visible scoring, refreshments and a practical check-in setup. This list covers the items to buy, borrow or bring before match day, including coolers, reusable tableware, power supplies and weather cover. Check quantities against the number of courts, players and volunteers, then have everything ready before the first match rather than shopping during the schedule.

Tips

  • Allow at least one playable set of tennis balls per court, plus a separate reserve supply. Keep the reserve tennis balls in a ball basket or cooler so they are easy to find between matches.
  • Prepare one scorekeeping setup for each active court: a scoreboard, match clock and a way to collect or store used balls. This prevents players from borrowing equipment from another court.
  • Bring enough water jugs, reusable cups and coolers for the full playing period. Put drinks where players can reach them without crossing the court entrance or blocking the check-in table.
  • If food is being served, match plates, cutlery, coffee cups and serving platters to the expected number of participants, then add roughly 10% extra for volunteers, guests and dropped items.
  • Pack extension cords, power strips and power banks before the venue opens. A laptop and printer are useful for last-minute schedules, but they are only practical if you can power them at the registration desk.

Frequently asked questions

What equipment do I need for a tennis tournament?
For each active court, plan tennis nets, rackets if players are not bringing their own, tennis balls, reserve balls, a scoreboard and a match clock. Add ball baskets, line sweepers and towels so courts can be reset quickly between matches.
How many tennis balls should I buy for a tournament?
Start with at least one full set per court in use and keep one additional reserve set for the tournament. For example, four active courts require four court sets plus one reserve set, with more needed if matches run for several hours.
What should I bring for drinks and food at a tennis tournament?
Bring coolers, water jugs, reusable cups and thermos flasks for drinks, plus plates, cutlery and serving platters for food. Prepare enough tableware for every registered player, volunteer and guest, and add about 10% spare items.
Do I need a tent for an outdoor tennis tournament?
A party tent is useful for the registration and catering tables when rain or strong sun is possible. Have it ready before opening time, and check that the venue allows it and that tables, chairs and power cables can be placed safely underneath.
