What to Bring for Swimming Practice
A swimming practice needs more than goggles and a pool. Use this checklist to prepare training equipment, registration supplies, refreshments and cleanup gear before swimmers arrive. Plan one set of shared equipment for each lane where possible, and bring enough drinks and snacks for the full session. Pack tablets, power banks and waterproof training materials separately so they stay dry. Check dietary requirements before shopping and cool drinks in advance.

Tips
- Pack at least one pair of goggles and one swim cap per swimmer, plus a few spare caps and goggles for replacements. Keep them together in a labelled storage bin.
- For lane-based drills, prepare enough kickboards, pull buoys, fins and hand paddles for pairs to share without stopping the session. Count equipment against the final participant list the day before.
- Allow two drinks per swimmer for a typical practice, then add extra water for a longer session or warm conditions. Chill drinks in coolers and keep a refill supply available during the recovery break.
- Bring one registration table, two chairs and a tablet with a power bank if attendance is recorded digitally. Pack printed training cards as a backup in case the tablet battery or connection fails.
- Buy snacks that can be served quickly during the recovery break, and check dietary requirements before shopping. Pack reusable cups, plates and cutlery, then keep towels, sponges and a floor squeegee ready for wet changing-room and poolside areas.
Frequently asked questions
- What equipment do I need for swimming practice?
- Bring goggles, swim caps, kickboards, pull buoys, fins and hand paddles, along with stopwatches and whistles for the coaches. For a group session, plan shared equipment for each lane and add a few spare items for breakage or forgotten gear.
- How many drinks should I buy for swimming practice?
- Plan two drinks per swimmer for a standard practice, plus at least 10% extra for spills, late arrivals or a longer session. Chill them several hours ahead and keep additional water available during training.
- What snacks should I bring to swimming practice?
- Provide one small snack per swimmer for the recovery break, with a few extra portions for unexpected attendees. Confirm dietary requirements before shopping, ideally at least 48 hours before practice.
- When should I prepare the swimming practice shopping list?
- Check the equipment and shopping list at least 3 days before practice, then do the final shop no later than the day before. Prepare coolers, snacks and registration materials on the day of the session.
