What to Buy for a Sports Clinic
A sports clinic needs more than balls and cones. You also need supplies for registration, changing areas, hydration, food, safety and clear instructions between sessions. Plan quantities around your participant count, then add a small buffer for lost, damaged or shared equipment. This checklist covers the practical items to buy or bring, including training gear, sound equipment, serving supplies and first aid essentials.

Tips
- Plan at least one ball for every 6β8 participants in a drill group, plus 2β3 spare balls for the whole clinic. Bring a pump with compatible needles because one flat ball can otherwise stop a session.
- Allow 2β3 drinks per person during the first hour, then about 1 drink per hour after that. Chill them before participants arrive and keep extra cups near the activity areas, not only at the reception table.
- Prepare one reusable cup and one plate per participant, plus 10% extra. Check dietary requirements before shopping so food can be separated and labelled before the clinic starts.
- Take one first aid kit for each active sports area, with at least two ice packs per kit. Put the kits where coaches can reach them within a minute, rather than leaving everything at reception.
- Bring one extension cord and one power strip for each separate powered setup, and test speakers, microphone and charging stations before opening registration. Pack cable covers or tape if cables cross walkways.
Frequently asked questions
- What equipment do I need for a sports clinic?
- For each training group, plan cones or marker discs, suitable balls, training bibs and at least one stopwatch or whistle. Add specialist items such as fitness mats, resistance bands, skipping ropes, agility ladders or mini goals according to the programme, with roughly 10% spare where equipment is shared.
- How many drinks should I buy for a sports clinic?
- Buy 2β3 drinks per participant for the first hour and around 1 per person for every additional hour. Add 10% extra for warm weather, longer sessions or participants who arrive early.
- How many first aid kits and ice packs are needed?
- Use one first aid kit per active sports area, with at least two ice packs in each kit. Check the contents 1β2 days before the clinic and replace anything missing or expired.
- When should I buy and prepare sports clinic supplies?
- Buy packaged drinks, serving supplies and consumables 2β3 days beforehand, then chill drinks and prepare food on the day. Check and test sports equipment, sound equipment and power connections at least 60 minutes before participants arrive.
