What to bring for a sauna outing

A sauna outing needs more than swimwear and a booking confirmation. Plan towels, robes, slippers, drinking water and a way to keep snacks and drinks cool during the trip. For a group day, pack shared supplies separately from each person’s toiletries and valuables. This shopping list also covers the items people often remember only after arriving: printed booking details, emergency contacts, chargers and enough containers for food.

Tips

  • Pack at least one large bath towel per person, plus one spare for every four guests. Add a robe and sauna slippers for each person if the venue does not provide them.
  • Bring two reusable water bottles per person for a full-day outing, or enough capacity for roughly 1.5 to 2 litres each. Fill them before leaving and keep extra water in the coolers.
  • Portion snacks into reusable containers before departure instead of bringing open packets. Take reusable cups, cutlery, serving tongs and a cutting board so food can be served without relying on the sauna venue.
  • Charge phones and power banks the night before. Put phone chargers, waterproof bags, toiletries and earplugs in one personal-belongings bag so they are not buried under towels.
  • Print the reservation confirmation, route and emergency contact cards before leaving. Keep one paper copy with the organiser even if everyone has the details on their phone.

Frequently asked questions

How many towels do I need for a sauna outing?
Plan one large bath towel per person and bring one extra towel for every four guests. If the sauna does not supply towels, add a second towel per person for drying after showering.
How much water should I bring to the sauna?
Pack about 1.5 to 2 litres of drinking water per person for a full day, preferably in reusable bottles. Bring extra water for the journey and refill bottles between sauna rounds.
What food should I buy for a sauna day?
Choose small, easy-to-serve snacks and portion them into containers before departure. Buy enough for two snack portions per person, plus the meal already covered by your dinner reservation.
When should I prepare the sauna outing shopping?
Buy non-perishable supplies two to three days beforehand and check towels, robes, slippers and coolers at the same time. Fill water bottles, chill drinks and pack food on the day of the outing.
