What you need for a sales day

A sales day needs more than products to sell. You also need a clear checkout setup, reliable payment equipment, price and stock labels, and enough supplies for coffee and refreshments. Plan tableware and drinks for the number of visitors you expect, then add a small buffer so you are not shopping during the event. Check power access early: coffee machines, kettles, payment terminals, label printers and scanners may all need charging or sockets.

Tips

  • Plan two to three drinks per person for the first hour, then add one drink per person for each additional hour. Chill part of the supply in coolers and keep the rest ready as backup.
  • Allow one coffee cup, one reusable cup, one plate and one cutlery set per expected visitor if food is served. Add at least 10% extra for replacements and visitors who return for another serving.
  • Prepare the checkout point with a cash drawer, change, payment terminals, a laptop, and any barcode or label equipment. Test every payment method at least one day before the sales day.
  • Bring enough labels and price tags for every sales item, plus around 10% spare. Label stock before setup so the sales team does not have to identify products while customers are waiting.
  • Check the venue’s sockets before bringing coffee machines, kettles, coolers, speakers and lighting together. Pack power strips and extension cords, and keep one clear socket available for the checkout equipment.
