What to buy for a Liberation bike ride

A Liberation bike ride needs more than bikes and a route map. You will need drinks and serving supplies at the start and rest stop, plus tools and spare parts for riders who develop a problem on the road. Safety equipment, lighting, communication and basic shelter are easy to overlook when shopping. Use this list to prepare the start area, checkpoint and support points without relying on last-minute purchases.

Tips

  • Plan roughly 2–3 drinks per rider for the first hour, then add water and other drinks for the rest stop. Chill them at least 12 hours before the ride and bring coolers for transport.
  • For every 10–15 riders, have access to at least one pump, one multi-tool and one tyre repair kit. Keep spare inner tubes in common sizes rather than assuming every rider carries one.
  • Prepare one safety vest and one reflective armband for each traffic post or route volunteer, plus several extras. Pack rechargeable walkie-talkies and power banks the evening before so communication does not depend on mobile coverage.
  • Allow one reusable cup per participant plus 10% spare, and provide separate coffee cups, plates and cutlery if food is served. Put serving spoons and thermos flasks at the rest stop before riders arrive.
  • Bring at least two battery lamps for each dark or poorly lit setup area, and charge the portable speaker, wireless microphone and walkie-talkies overnight. Extension cords and power strips should be packed with the equipment, not left at home.

Frequently asked questions

What drinks do I need for a Liberation bike ride?
Plan 2–3 drinks per rider for the first hour, then add enough water and other drinks for the rest stop. Chill the drinks at least 12 hours before departure and transport them in coolers.
How many bike repair supplies should I buy?
For every 10–15 riders, provide at least one bike pump, one multi-tool and one tyre repair kit. Add spare inner tubes in the sizes used by the participating bikes and keep the repair supplies at the checkpoint.
How many safety vests and reflective armbands are needed?
Provide one safety vest and one reflective armband for every volunteer assigned to traffic posts or route support. Buy 10–20% extra so a replacement is available if one is lost or damaged.
When should I charge the ride equipment?
Charge the walkie-talkies, power banks, portable speaker and wireless microphone the evening before the ride. Test them again at least 2 hours before setup, along with the battery lamps and extension equipment.
