What to buy for an interior market

An interior market needs more than tables for exhibitors. You will need a clear setup for pitches, display furniture, power, lighting, payments, refreshments and visitor information. Start with the exhibitor count and allow one market stall or display area per participant, then add shared equipment for registration, catering and announcements. Check deliveries, extension leads and signage several days before opening; these are easy to overlook and difficult to replace at the last minute.

Tips

  • Plan one clearly marked pitch per exhibitor, then keep at least 10% extra table or storage capacity for late changes, shared displays and packaging.
  • Count power points before buying or collecting equipment. Keep extension cords and power strips separate for coffee machines, payment terminals, lighting and audio rather than running everything from one outlet.
  • Prepare two payment options for the market: payment terminals for card transactions and a cash register with enough small change. Test every terminal and charging station at least one day before opening.
  • Allow two to three drinks per visitor for the first hour when planning coffee, tea and water service. Fill coolers shortly before doors open, and keep a separate supply for exhibitors and staff.
  • Print exhibitor lists, directional signs and visitor information before setup day. Bring battery lamps or lanterns as a backup in case the venue has dark corners or a power problem.

Frequently asked questions

What furniture do I need for an interior market?
Plan one market stall or display area for each exhibitor, plus shared foldable tables for registration, refreshments and storage. Add chairs for staff and exhibitors; a practical starting point is one chair per person working a pitch and two to four extra chairs for visitors or breaks.
How much lighting is needed for an interior market?
Give every dark pitch access to a work light or battery lamp, and use string lights or lanterns only as additional ambient lighting. Prepare at least one spare battery lamp for every ten pitches and test all lights before exhibitors arrive.
How many extension cords and power strips should I bring?
Count each powered item first, then bring one extension cord per separate pitch or equipment zone and at least one power strip for every two nearby powered devices. Keep 10% extra cords available, especially for coffee machines, payment terminals and audio equipment.
When should I prepare the interior market shopping list?
Make the first list at least two weeks before the market, once the exhibitor count and floor plan are clear. Confirm deliveries and collect rented or borrowed equipment one to two days before setup, then do the final shopping run the day before opening.
