What to bring to a football tournament

A football tournament needs more than balls and team shirts. Plan supplies for registration, changing areas, match control, player safety and the time between games. Water, fruit and coolers keep teams going, while cones, corner flags, field marking paint and a scoreboard keep the competition organised. This checklist also covers the items people often arrange too late, such as emergency contacts, power access, certificates and clearly marked information points.

Tips

  • Plan at least 1 litre of drinking water per player for a half-day tournament, then add extra for hot weather. Use coolers and ice packs so spare water and fruit stay usable throughout the day.
  • Prepare the registration desk at least 60 minutes before the first match. Keep team lists, player registration forms, permanent markers, a welcome sign and hand sanitiser together in one clearly marked area.
  • Bring enough field equipment for every active pitch plus one spare set. Count corner flags, training cones, training markers and safety cones before loading the car, not when teams are waiting to play.
  • Pack safety supplies where volunteers can reach them within 2 minutes. Keep the first-aid kit, emergency contact list, insect repellent and cold packs together, and make sure one named organiser knows where they are.
  • Charge phones, portable chargers and any device used for scores or photos the night before. Bring power strips and spare memory cards, and test the scoreboard before the opening announcements.

Frequently asked questions

How much water do I need for a football tournament?
Allow about 1 litre per player for a half-day tournament, plus 250–500 ml per player for each additional hour in warm conditions. Add a reserve of at least 10% so a late team or hot weather does not leave you short.
What food should I buy for a football tournament?
Choose easy-to-eat fruit and plan roughly 1–2 portions per player between matches. Keep it in coolers with ice packs, and provide serving dishes rather than leaving food in open packaging.
How many cones and corner flags do I need?
Each pitch needs four corner flags and a set of training or safety cones. Count the number of pitches running at the same time, then bring one spare set of cones and at least two extra flags for breakages or misplaced equipment.
When should I prepare the football tournament supplies?
Buy non-perishable items and check borrowed equipment at least 3–5 days before the tournament. Pack chilled drinks, fruit and ice packs on the morning itself, and finish the registration and safety setup at least 60 minutes before the first match.
