Confirm the DJ and music style before collecting music files. Ask for the final playlist or USB stick at least 7 days before the party, and check whether the DJ needs a controller, mixer, laptop stand or microphone.
Test the sound system in the actual venue, not just at home. Check every power outlet, use power strips and extension cords safely, and keep cable trays ready for walkways; allow at least 60 minutes for setup and testing.
Plan drinks for the first hour separately from the rest of the evening: provide roughly 2 to 3 drinks per guest, chill them in coolers and prepare water jugs before guests arrive. Refill ice during the party instead of waiting until it runs out.
