Disco Night Shopping List

A disco night needs more than music and a few lights. Plan the drinks, serving items, decorations and technical equipment together so guests can move easily, find the cloakroom and stay supplied throughout the evening. Use this list alongside your run sheet and guest registrations. Check dietary requirements before buying catering, chill drinks in advance, and test every cable, speaker and light before guests arrive.

Tips

  • Plan two to three drinks per person for the first hour, then one to two per person for each additional hour. Buy a separate supply of water and keep part of the drinks chilled in coolers before setup.
  • Allow one reusable cup and one plate per guest, plus at least 10% extra. For 50 guests, that means 55 cups and plates so replacements are available without washing during the party.
  • Buy decorations only after checking the room layout. Measure the entrance, stage or DJ area and photo backdrop space first, then use directional signs where guests need to find coats, toilets or the main hall.
  • Test speakers, mixer, microphone, laptop, disco lights and extension cords at least one day before the event. Keep cable reels and power strips away from walkways and tape down any cables that cross the floor.
  • Finish shelf-stable shopping and decoration purchases at least two days before disco night. Chill drinks the day before, and keep a printed run sheet, hall map and equipment checklist at the setup desk.
