Construction safety training checklist

Use this checklist to organise a construction safety training day from registration through certificates. It covers the details that are easy to miss, including dietary requirements, PPE sizes, tested presentation equipment and practical exercise materials. Set the learning objectives before preparing the presentation, then confirm the trainer, room, catering and route. On the day, allow enough time to open the room, arrange the registration desk, connect the projector and lay out safety equipment before participants arrive.

Tips

  • Confirm the trainer, learning objectives and practical exercises before building the presentation. This gives you time to print worksheets, knowledge tests and certificates in the correct quantities.
  • Collect PPE sizes during registration, not on the training day. Check helmets, goggles, hearing protection, vests, gloves, safety shoes, harnesses and fall protection lines against the participant list before ordering or packing.
  • Test the laptop, projector, screen, speaker, microphone, extension cords and power strips at least one day in advance. Bring power banks as a backup and check that every presentation file opens correctly.
  • Book the training room and catering after confirming the final registration numbers. Store chilled catering safely, and allow extra time for dietary requirements to be checked before serving.
  • Arrive early enough to set up the registration desk, chairs, instruction tables, flip chart and practical materials. Keep bollards and other safety equipment together so the exercises can start without searching for items.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I organise construction safety training?
Start planning at least 3 to 4 weeks before the training date. Confirm the trainer, room and catering first, then collect registrations, PPE sizes and dietary requirements before preparing materials.
How much PPE do I need for construction safety training?
Prepare one suitable set of required PPE for every participant, plus at least 1 spare set in common sizes. Check sizes and equipment condition 3 to 5 days before the session.
When should I test the projector and training equipment?
Test the laptop, projector, screen, audio equipment and power connections at least 24 hours before training. Reconnect everything in the room on the morning of the session before participants arrive.
How early should I arrive for construction safety training?
Arrive at least 60 to 90 minutes before the start time. This gives you time to open the room, arrange tables and chairs, set up registration, lay out PPE and prepare the practical exercises.
