What you need for a breakfast campaign

A breakfast campaign needs more than bread, fruit and coffee. Plan the serving setup, chilled storage, food preparation tools and clear signs before you shop. Your list should cover breakfast plates, bowls, cups, glasses and cutlery, plus enough serving utensils for the buffet. Check dietary requirements before buying fillings, label allergens on the day and allow time to chill fresh products and prepare cut fruit and vegetables.

Tips

  • Plan food quantities from confirmed registrations, then add a small buffer for late arrivals. Keep vegetarian, vegan and other dietary requirements separate when shopping and preparing the buffet.
  • Buy or collect chilled products no later than the day before, and store them in a fridge or coolers until serving. Use a food thermometer if food will be held for an extended period.
  • Allow at least one serving spoon or pair of tongs for each filling, fruit bowl and shared dish. Put bread knives and cutting boards at the bread station so guests do not use kitchen knives at the buffet.
  • Check the venue’s power supply before bringing coffee machines and kettles. Count the outlets, extension cords and power strips in advance, and avoid overloading one socket.
  • Prepare name badges, pens, menus and allergen signs before guests arrive. Put the donation box near the entrance or registration point, not behind the breakfast buffet where people may miss it.

Frequently asked questions

How much breakfast food should I buy per person?
Use the confirmed registration count as your base and add around 10% for late arrivals or larger appetites. Split the quantity across bread, toppings, fruit and drinks rather than buying one large surplus of a single item.
How far in advance should I shop for a breakfast campaign?
Buy shelf-stable items and disposable supplies 2 to 3 days beforehand. Shop for bread, fruit and chilled products the day before, then refrigerate or cool them until preparation and service.
How many coffee cups and plates do I need?
Prepare at least one plate, cup, glass and cutlery set per registered guest, plus 10% extra. For a group of 50, that means 55 of each item where possible.
When should I prepare fruit and vegetables for breakfast?
Wash and cut them on the morning of the campaign, ideally 1 to 2 hours before guests arrive. Keep prepared produce covered and chilled until it goes onto the buffet.
