Tips
- Allow two to three drinks per person for the first hour, then one drink per person for each additional hour. Bring extra water for warm weather and keep it in coolers at the rest areas.
- Buy meat and meat substitutes according to the final registration count, plus about 10% extra for late additions or larger appetites. Keep vegetarian portions separate from raw meat and use separate serving utensils.
- Pack one reusable plate, bowl, cup and cutlery set per guest, plus at least 10% spare. Add coffee cups separately if coffee will be served after the ride.
- Prepare one bike repair kit, one pump and spare inner tubes before departure, rather than relying on riders to bring their own. Check that the inner tubes match the most common tyre sizes in the group.
- Bring route maps and signs in a waterproof folder, and pack reflective vests, traffic cones and bike locks with the route team. Put the signs out only after the route and weather check are complete.
Frequently asked questions
- How much food do I need for a barbecue bike ride?

- How many drinks should I buy for a barbecue bike ride?
- Plan two to three drinks per person for the first hour and one more per person for every following hour. Include extra water for hot weather and keep chilled drinks in coolers until serving.
- What bike repair supplies should I bring?
- Bring at least one bike pump, one repair kit and two spare inner tubes for a small group. For larger groups, add one repair kit and two spare tubes for every 10β15 riders.
- When should I buy and prepare the barbecue food?
- Buy chilled meat, meat substitutes and drinks no earlier than one day before the ride. Wash and cut vegetables and portion the food on the day itself, then keep everything refrigerated until transport.
