What to buy for an anniversary run
An anniversary run needs more than race numbers and medals. You will need supplies for registration, route marking, timing, first aid, refreshments and a workable start and finish area. Plan quantities around the number of participants, volunteers and spectators, then add a small reserve for damaged bibs, spilled drinks and late registrations. The shopping list below covers the practical equipment and consumables to have ready before race day.

Tips
- Order bib numbers, safety pins, wristbands and medals as soon as registration numbers are stable; allow at least 10% extra bibs and pins for replacements and last-minute entries.
- For refreshments, calculate two to three drinks per participant for the first hour, plus extra cups and water for volunteers stationed along the route and at the finish.
- Prepare route supplies in separate boxes: signs, cones, barrier tape and safety vests should be ready at least one day before the run so volunteers are not sorting them at the start.
- Check the sound setup before race day, including the portable speaker, wireless microphone, mixer, extension cords and power strips; bring at least two charged power banks as backup.
- Keep first aid kits, umbrellas and finish-line supplies together at the finish area, and reserve enough tables, chairs, bins and buffet space for registration, catering and medal distribution.
Frequently asked questions
- How many bib numbers should I buy for an anniversary run?
- Buy one bib number per registered participant and add about 10% extra. For 100 runners, prepare approximately 110 bibs, with matching safety pins and any wristbands.
- How much food and drink do I need for a running anniversary event?
- Plan two to three drinks per participant during the first hour, then add drinks for volunteers and spectators. For food, use your confirmed registration count and add 10% to cover late arrivals and larger portions.
- When should I order medals and race numbers?
- Order medals and bib numbers once the design and expected participant count are confirmed, preferably at least 3 to 4 weeks before race day. Keep a small surplus for replacements and late registrations.
- What equipment is needed at the start and finish of a fun run?
- Allow space for tables, chairs, waste bins, route signs, cones, barrier tape, a finish ribbon, timing equipment, first aid kits and sound equipment. Have the route and finish-line supplies staged at least one day in advance.
