10K Run Shopping List
Use this shopping list to prepare the essentials for a 10-kilometre run, from bib numbers and course markers to drinks and finish-line supplies. The quantities depend on your number of runners, but several items need a buffer: print extra race numbers, provide more cups than the exact headcount and keep spare pens and batteries available. Do not leave route-marking materials, reflective vests or timing equipment until race morning. Pack everything in labelled storage crates so volunteers can find it quickly at the start, finish and along the course.

Tips
- Prepare one bib number and one race bib strap per registered runner, plus at least 5% extra for late changes, damaged numbers or replacements. Sort them in participant order before race day.
- For drinks, allow 2β3 cups per runner at each drink point and keep at least 10% extra cups on hand. Put the water, disposable cups and waste collection together so volunteers do not have to search for supplies.
- Mark the course with a route arrow at every turn, a kilometre marker for each kilometre and extra cones or barrier tape at traffic-risk points. Pack spare markers because signs can be moved or blown over.
- Set aside one reflective vest for every course marshal or traffic controller, plus 2β3 spare vests. Bring printed course maps, clipboards and pens for the people checking the route, timing and participant list.
- Create separate crates for the start, finish and course. Include medals, luggage tags and access to luggage bins at the finish, and test the sound system, microphone, extension cords and power strips before runners arrive.
Frequently asked questions
- How many bib numbers should I print for a 10K run?
- Print one bib number per registered runner and add at least 5% extra. For 200 runners, that means 210 bib numbers, with matching spare race bib straps if you use them.
- How many disposable cups do I need for a 10K race?
- Allow 2β3 cups per runner at each drink station, then add 10% for spills and extra use. With 200 runners and one station, prepare roughly 440β660 cups before adding the buffer.
- How many kilometre markers are needed for a 10K?
- Use markers for kilometres 1 through 10, plus a clearly visible start and finish indication. Bring at least 2β3 spare markers in case one is damaged or misplaced during setup.
- When should I buy supplies for a 10K run?
- Buy durable equipment and printed materials at least 1β2 weeks before the race. Purchase consumables such as drinks and disposable cups after the final participant count, ideally 2β3 days before the event.
