Volleyball tournament shopping list
A volleyball tournament needs more than balls and a net. You will also need reliable scorekeeping equipment, spare match gear, refreshments, serving items and a clear setup for teams, officials and spectators. Check what the sports hall already provides before buying anything, especially volleyball posts, benches, tables and power access. Use this list alongside your schedule and volunteer plan so missing supplies are found before the first match, not during the opening serve.

Tips
- Plan for at least one match ball per active court, plus two or three spare volleyballs for the tournament. Keep them together in ball carts so a replacement can be brought onto court quickly.
- Prepare one scoring setup per court: a scoreboard, stopwatch, score sheets, pens and a charged device if results are entered digitally. Test laptops or tablets and power connections before teams arrive.
- Count serving supplies by expected attendance rather than by team alone. Allow roughly one reusable cup per participant and volunteer, with extra cups available for the registration and refreshment areas.
- Set aside spare sport-specific equipment before setup starts, including reserve antennas, whistles, team bibs and court-marking tape. These are easy to overlook when the main volleyball equipment has already been checked.
- Buy refreshments early enough to chill them before the tournament begins, and match food quantities to the schedule. Provide enough plates, cutlery, bowls and serving utensils for every planned break, then keep waste bins near the serving area.
Frequently asked questions
- What equipment do I need for a volleyball tournament?
- For each court, plan a volleyball net, two posts, a referee chair, a scoreboard, a stopwatch and court-marking supplies. Add at least one match ball and two or three spare balls per court, plus whistles and reserve antennas.
- How many volleyballs do I need for a tournament?
- Allow one match ball per active court and two or three spare balls per court. For example, a four-court tournament needs at least four match balls and eight to twelve spares, depending on how quickly balls can be retrieved.
- How many cups should I buy for a volleyball tournament?
- Count players, volunteers, referees and spectators who will use the refreshment area, then provide at least one reusable cup per person. Add 10 to 15 percent extra so lost or unwashed cups do not interrupt service.
- When should I prepare the shopping list for a volleyball tournament?
- Make a first list at least two weeks before the tournament, after the venue and expected attendance are known. Recheck quantities three to five days beforehand, then buy chilled drinks and fresh food close enough to the event to keep them ready to serve.
