Prepare one registration pack per participant: an entry form, start number, pen and a hard writing surface such as a clipboard. Keep several spare forms and at least 10% extra pens available.
Bring two weighing scales, including a tested reserve scale, and check both before participants arrive. Place the scales on a stable, level table and keep a written record of each catch.
Use one keepnet or bucket per fishing spot where appropriate, plus landing nets for safely handling fish. Have enough containers for the number of participants rather than relying on one shared bucket.
For a four-hour competition, plan roughly 1.5 litres of drinking water per participant, plus two to three drinks per person during the first hour if you also serve coffee, tea or soft drinks. Keep drinks and sandwiches in cool boxes with ice packs.
