What You Need for a Volleyball Tournament

A volleyball tournament needs more than nets and balls. You also need a clear setup for scoring, refereeing, team identification, refreshments, waste, and payments. Use the complete checklist below to gather sports equipment, furniture, serving items, and sound equipment before tournament day. Check quantities against the number of teams, courts, players, volunteers, and expected spectators at least one week before the event.

Tips

  • Plan for at least one match ball per court, plus two spare volleyballs for the tournament. Keep a pump and several ball needles at the equipment table so play does not stop for a flat ball.
  • Prepare one scorekeeping setup for every active court: a scorebord, wedstrijdfluitje, scheidsrechtersstoel, and a set of wedstrijdformulieren. Add reserve antennas and field-marking tape before the first match.
  • Give each team enough teamhesjes for its full playing group, with a few extras for late replacements. Label the sets before arrival so teams do not spend time sorting them in the sports hall.
  • For refreshments, count glasses, coffee cups, plates, tables, and afvalbakken by expected attendance rather than only by player numbers. Chill drinks in the koelboxen several hours before the first match, not just when teams arrive.
  • Test the speaker, wireless microphone, microphone stand, extension leads, and power strips at least one day ahead. Set up the cash register and payment terminal with a charging plan and a small cash float before doors open.

Frequently asked questions

How many volleyballs do I need for a tournament?
Plan for one match ball per active court and at least two spare balls for the whole tournament. For three courts, that means a minimum of five volleyballs, plus a pump and ball needles.
What equipment is needed for each volleyball court?
Each court needs a net, net poles, field-marking tape, a scorebord, a referee chair, a whistle, and reserve antennas. Prepare one complete set per court at least one day before setup.
How much food and drink should I buy for a volleyball tournament?
Use the confirmed player and spectator count, then add a 10% buffer for drinks, plates, and snacks. Chill the drinks several hours in advance and keep extra serving items available during the busiest break.
When should I prepare the tournament shopping list?
Make the first list at least one week before the tournament, when team numbers and dietary requirements are known. Do the final stock check two days before shopping and check equipment again the day before setup.
