Trekking camp shopping list

A trekking camp needs more than tents and sleeping bags. Plan equipment for the walk, overnight stay, cooking area, registration point and changing weather. Bring one sleeping setup per person, enough water capacity for the route, and backup lighting and charging equipment. Pack food by meal so supplies are easy to find when the group arrives at camp. Check the participant information before shopping for dietary or medical needs.

Tips

  • Match the sleeping gear to the group size: provide one two-person tent, two sleeping bags and two sleeping mats for every two participants, plus ground tarps and tent hammers.
  • Plan cooking equipment around the largest meal. Take enough gas cylinders for all cooking periods, and pack separate pots, cutting boards, paring knives and serving spoons so preparation does not depend on one item.
  • Give every walker a drink bottle and backpack, then add rain ponchos, walking sticks and a whistle for changing conditions. Keep route maps, a compass and safety vests together at the registration table.
  • Pack one flashlight for each participant or walking pair, and charge all power banks before departure. Bring charging power strips and extension cords only after checking that the campsite has a safe connection point.
  • Prepare more than one first aid kit when the group will split across the route. Keep walkie-talkies with the route leaders and place waste bins near both the cooking area and registration table.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need for a trekking camp overnight stay?
For each pair, plan one two-person tent, two sleeping bags, two sleeping mats, one ground tarp and tent hammers. Add a backpack, drink bottle and suitable rain protection for each participant.
How much cooking equipment should I bring to trekking camp?
Bring at least one gas burner and one cooking pot for each cooking station, plus gas cylinders for every planned cooking period. Pack one cutting board, paring knife and serving spoon per active preparation station.
How many flashlights and power banks do I need for a trekking camp?
Plan one flashlight per participant or per walking pair, depending on whether people move in pairs after dark. Charge all power banks before leaving and bring enough capacity for the full stay plus one backup charge.
When should I buy and pack food for trekking camp?
Shop after registrations and dietary requirements are confirmed, ideally 2 to 3 days before departure. Pack food by meal and keep chilled items in coolers until the cooking area is ready.
