What to Buy and Bring for an Easter Camp

An Easter camp needs more than tents and food. You will need sleeping accommodation, a covered area, cooking equipment, reusable tableware, cold storage and materials for group games. Plan quantities around your participant list, then check which items the campsite already provides. Buy chilled goods as close to departure as possible and keep them cold during transport. Pack equipment in labelled crates so setup is faster when you arrive.

Tips

  • Choose tents with space for four people and bring enough tents for the full participant list, plus a clear sleeping plan. Set aside a few extra sleeping places if late changes are possible.
  • Plan one reusable plate, bowl, cup and cutlery set per person, plus at least 10% extra for damaged, misplaced or unwashed items. Bring mugs separately for hot drinks.
  • Allow one large cooking pot or frying pan for each dish being prepared at the same time, and check that you have enough gas burners and gas cylinders before shopping. Do not leave fuel checks until the day of departure.
  • Keep refrigerated food in coolers from the shop until the kitchen is ready. Use jerry cans for water, and fill thermos flasks before activities so participants do not need to queue at the cooking area.
  • Pack footballs, volleyballs, ropes and cones together in one labelled sports crate. Count every item before leaving the campsite so small equipment does not get left behind.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need for an Easter camp kitchen?
Bring gas burners, matching gas cylinders, large cooking pots, frying pans, cutting boards, a chef's knife, kettles, thermos flasks, coolers, jerry cans, measuring cups, kitchen tongs and aluminum foil. Allow at least one complete preparation area for each dish cooked at the same time.
How many plates and cups do I need for an Easter camp?
Start with one reusable plate, bowl, cup and cutlery set per participant, then add 10% extra. For 40 participants, pack at least 44 of each basic item where practical, especially cups and cutlery.
When should I buy food for an Easter camp?
Buy fresh and refrigerated goods no earlier than one day before departure when possible. Move them into coolers immediately and keep them chilled until the kitchen is set up.
How many tents do I need for an Easter camp?
Divide the participant list into groups of four and round up to the next whole tent. For 36 campers, that means at least 9 four-person tents; check whether leaders need separate sleeping accommodation.
