Tennis tournament shopping list
A tennis tournament needs more than rackets and balls. Plan equipment for the courts, a clear way to record scores, drinks and tableware for players and volunteers, plus power and weather cover for the registration area. Use the number of registered players to scale consumables, and check borrowed equipment at least one week before the tournament. Keep spare balls, grips, towels and power banks ready so small problems do not interrupt the schedule.

Tips
- Count tennis balls by court before shopping: keep a fresh supply for each court and add spare balls for lost, wet or damaged ones. Check the nets, posts and scoreboards at least 7 days before play.
- Plan drinks for the full day rather than only the matches. A practical starting point is 2 to 3 drinks per player for the first hour, then 1 to 2 more per hour, with reusable bottles and coolers available courtside.
- Prepare one scorecard and a working pen for every scheduled match, plus at least 10% extra. Print the match schedule before the event and keep a laptop, printer, extension cords and power strips together at the registration table.
- Buy or gather enough cups, plates, cutlery and coffee cups for players, volunteers and guests. Add around 10% extra tableware, especially if the tournament includes a prize presentation or food break.
- Do not leave weather and charging supplies until the last day. Arrange party tents or another covered area, test the portable speaker and wireless microphone, and charge power banks the evening before.
Frequently asked questions
- How many tennis balls do I need for a tournament?
- Start with at least 3 balls per court in play, then add a spare supply of roughly 1 ball per player. For 4 courts and 32 players, that means 12 balls in play plus about 32 spares, adjusted for your format and ball changes.
- How much water and drinks should I buy for a tennis tournament?
- Allow 2 to 3 drinks per player for the first hour and 1 to 2 drinks per player for each additional hour. For a 4-hour tournament with 24 players, plan roughly 96 to 168 drinks, including water and other options.
- How many scorecards should I print?
- Print one scorecard for every scheduled match and add at least 10% extra. If your schedule contains 40 matches, print 44 scorecards so replacements are available for mistakes, rain delays or lost sheets.
- When should I check the tennis tournament equipment?
- Check nets, posts, balls, scoreboards, rackets, grips and the air pump at least 7 days before the tournament. Test the printer, microphone, speaker and power supplies 1 to 2 days beforehand, then charge power banks the evening before.
