What you need for table tennis training

Use this shopping list to prepare a table tennis training session without last-minute runs to the store. It covers playing equipment, drills, registration, refreshments and the practical items that keep the gym organised. Check how many tables, paddles and balls are already available before buying anything. For a session with refreshments, plan cups, coffee supplies and chilled drinks for the full participant list, plus a small reserve.

Tips

  • Count tables, nets, paddles and balls before shopping. For drills, have at least one paddle per participant and enough balls to keep practice moving while others are collecting them.
  • Bring a ball bucket for each active practice station, especially when several tables run at once. A timer and scoreboards also help the trainer keep rotations and exercises on schedule.
  • Plan the refreshment quantities from the final participant list, not from the invitation count. Chill drinks before arrival and prepare enough reusable cups, plates and cutlery for everyone who will eat or drink.
  • Check the gym’s power points before bringing coffee machines, kettles or thermos flasks. Pack extension cords and power strips only where they can be placed safely away from the tables and walkways.
  • Do not leave setup materials until the training starts. Floor markings, barrier fences, coordination ladders and training hoops should be ready before participants arrive, with a broom available for the end of the session.

Frequently asked questions

How many table tennis balls do I need for training?
Plan a generous supply rather than one ball per player. For a group using several tables, prepare at least 20 to 30 balls per active table so drills can continue while loose balls are collected.
How many table tennis paddles are needed for a training session?
Provide one paddle for each participant who will train at the same time, plus 2 to 4 spare paddles. Confirm this number after registrations close, especially if the group includes beginners who may need replacements.
How much coffee and how many cups should I buy for table tennis training?
Use the final participant count and plan one to two cups per person for a short session, or two to three for a longer morning or afternoon program. Add roughly 10% extra cups and coffee supplies for trainers and late arrivals.
When should I prepare the drinks and training equipment?
Set up tables, nets, barriers and training materials at least 30 minutes before participants arrive. Chill drinks and prepare coffee supplies during the same setup period, leaving enough time to test power connections and check the floor.
