What you need for a Sudoku contest
A Sudoku contest needs more than printed puzzles and pens. Prepare one complete puzzle pack and writing set for every participant, then keep a supply of spares for damaged sheets, late registrations and tie-breaks. You will also need visible timing equipment, score sheets, table numbers and materials for registration. Order prizes and certificates early, and check printing, power and presentation equipment before contest day.

Tips
- Prepare one puzzle booklet, answer sheet, folder, score sheet, clipboard and pen or pencil for each registered participant. Add at least 10% spare packs so a missing or damaged sheet does not delay the start.
- Pack pencils, erasers and sharpeners at a ratio of at least one writing set per participant, with extra pens and erasers at the registration desk. Participants often arrive without a reliable pencil.
- Keep backup puzzles and spare answer sheets separate from the main packs. Prepare enough for every competition round plus 10% extra, and store them where participants cannot see them.
- Buy or prepare one participant badge and one table number for each attendee or assigned table. Bring tape and scissors for last-minute replacements and signs.
- Check the prizes, certificates, stopwatches, microphone, projector and printer at least 48 hours before the contest. Test every extension cord and power strip with the equipment you will use.
