What you need for a smartphone workshop
A smartphone workshop needs more than phones and a presentation. Participants will need reliable charging options, space to practise, and clear materials they can follow during the session. Check cable types before shopping: USB-C and Lightning connections may both be needed. You will also need practical items for registration, refreshments and room setup, including name badges, pens, tables and chairs. Use this list to check what must be bought, borrowed or reserved before the workshop day.

Tips
- Plan at least one charging option for every two participants, and include both USB-C and Lightning cables if attendees may use different phones. Add extension cords and power strips only after checking where the roomβs sockets are.
- Test the laptop, projector, projection screen and speaker together at least one day before the workshop. Keep a spare USB-C cable and extension cord available because presentation equipment often needs different connections than expected.
- Prepare one phone stand for each practice area, rather than leaving participants to hold their phones while following instructions. Arrange the tables so everyone can see the screen and still have room to practise.
- Buy or prepare coffee cups, glasses, plates and cutlery before the final shopping trip. Set out serving utensils, serving platters and thermos flasks before participants arrive so the registration period does not become a serving task.
- Pack name badges and pens at the registration desk and prepare them at least 30 minutes before opening the room. Keep the participant list and workshop manuals together so late arrivals can register and start without interrupting the explanation.
Frequently asked questions
- What equipment do I need for a smartphone workshop?
- At minimum, prepare a laptop, projector, projection screen and speaker for the presentation. Provide phone stands, USB chargers, extension cords and power strips for the practice areas, and check whether USB-C and Lightning cables are required.
- How many charging cables should I buy for a smartphone class?
- Use one charging point for every two participants as a practical starting point. Include both USB-C and Lightning cables when the group uses mixed devices, then add a few spare cables after checking the registration list.
- What should I prepare for smartphone workshop registration?
- Set up one registration desk with the participant list, name badges and pens. Have it ready at least 30 minutes before the room opens so attendance can be recorded while participants arrive.
- When should I test the workshop presentation equipment?
- Test the laptop, projector, screen, speaker and power connections at least one day before the workshop. Repeat a short check when you open the room, because cables or power strips may have been moved.
