What to bring for a ski or snowboard day
A ski or snowboard day needs more than skis, boards and lift passes. Pack food and drinks for the journey and lunch, plus practical items that are easy to forget when everyone is focused on the weather and equipment. This list also covers safety, transport and group organisation, from snow chains and emergency blankets to name stickers and document folders. Check clothing and equipment the day before departure, not at the meeting point.

Tips
- Plan at least one packed lunch, two drinks and one hot drink per person if lunch is not reserved at the resort. Use coolers and cooling pads for food, and thermos flasks for hot drinks.
- Bring one helmet, pair of goggles and pair of gloves per participant, and check sizes before departure. Rental equipment may cover skis or snowboards without covering every protective item.
- Keep snow chains, flashlights, reflective vests and emergency blankets in the vehicle rather than in luggage. Check the forecast and road conditions the evening before, then again before leaving.
- Pack reusable cups, plates and cutlery for the full group, plus a small buffer of 2 or 3 extra sets. Cutting boards, bread knives and napkin holders make packed-lunch distribution much quicker.
- Prepare the paperwork before loading the vehicle: place route maps, participant details, emergency contacts and payment information in document folders. Add name stickers and waterproof markers so equipment and luggage can be identified in under 5 minutes.
Frequently asked questions
- What food should I pack for a ski or snowboard day?
- Pack one filling lunch and at least two snacks per person, such as sandwiches, fruit or cereal bars. Add two drinks for the journey and one hot drink if you will be outside for several hours.
- How many spare cups, plates and cutlery sets do I need?
- Pack one reusable cup, plate and cutlery set per participant, plus 2 or 3 spare sets. This covers lost items, damaged pieces and unexpected additional guests.
- When should I check ski clothing and equipment?
- Check all clothing and equipment at least 24 hours before departure. Confirm rental reservations, helmet and goggle sizes, and whether each participant has suitable waterproof layers before loading the vehicle.
- Do I need snow chains for a ski day?
- Take snow chains when the route or local regulations may require them, especially if snow is forecast. Check the vehicle and practise fitting them at least one day before departure, not at the roadside.
